Commissioned for Socially Distanced Yet Creatively Connected, an exhibition in response to the global pandemic and inspired by our collective experience of lockdown.

Artist’s statement:

The piece I painted for this exhibition in response to Covid was a deep reflection on what it means to be truly free. Inner Journey represents an inner spaciousness and light. Co vid brought fear to the surface for many of us. Unable to travel and escape this new reality I was driven inwards and towards the realisation that true freedom is within each of us, that the journey towards it is not always an easy one, but it is one that brings the most beautiful destinations within each of our reach. As I have always painted from a place of joy and peace this new reality fraught with fear of the unknown required a stillness of heart, of being gently grounded in the present yet remaining fluid and in flow with the unfolding of each new day. I was reminded that we are all connected to the creative energy that flows through and around us, becoming more aware of this universal connection was a very powerful experience.

Inner Journey is an expression of these emotions towards finding space and light, it is hope, but above all, it is a love letter to myself and a gentle reminder that our journey does not begin with a sunrise and end with a sunset, but is rather a collection of horizons on which to reflect and to dream.
