About Kara Burrowes

Kara’s work intends to make sense of the complexity of the urban landscape by observation, selection, modification, distortion, deletion and reorganisation. Obsessive patterns and markings, both prescribed and spontaneous, expose and mask layers beneath to reveal and conceal the process causing contradictions. The result is a play between abstraction and the recognisable. The discernible borrows elements from markings and drawings from the urban street-scape, with some of the more ominous and humorous city snippets of interest. What others might deem mundane, her work identifies and reclassifies as precious and alluring resulting in works that are vestiges from observation, re-layered fragments of time.
