Mary Taylor
Mary’s subject matter conveys a strong connection with Aotearoa New Zealand: our unique flora, fauna and landscapes. Her work explores the beauty found in nature and reflects a sense of peace and stillness.
Mary works in a variety of mediums.
For paintings, she uses acrylic or oils on board or canvas.
For etchings, she follows a traditional process involving zinc plate, nitric acid and a manual etching press. Each piece is hand-coloured and is an original work.

Mary Taylor was born in Narrow Neck, Devonport, and remembers a childhood with strong links to the coastline and sea. She was educated at Auckland and Massey Universities and was formerly a teacher.
She lives in the Waitakere Ranges and works in a studio surrounded by native forest.
Her work is found in many collections here and offshore. Mary’s picture book Old Blue: The Rarest Bird in the World won a New Zealand non-fiction award. She is represented in New Zealand’s Favourite Artists ed. Denis Robinson.
