In 1986 Sean studied in Australia and then migrated to New Zealand in 1988, where he obtained his degree of Visual Arts from the Fine Arts School, University of Auckland. From 1992 to 1998, Sean travelled broadly around the world to over 40 countries, visiting many famous galleries and museums as well as presenting and participating in various seminars at a number of distinguished art institutes and universities. Sean now lives in New Zealand and is profoundly impressed by New Zealand’s beautiful landscape.
Sean Chen is one of the very few Chinese artists living in New Zealand celebrated by the mainstream art galleries, where his numerous solo exhibitions have been held. His works have been widely collected and appreciated by the Western art societies and critics, holding exhibitions in America, Britain, China and Australia. His paintings have been collected by the local Parliament House, the Governor-General House, a number of well-known corporations as well as overseas art collectors.
As a contemporary Expressionist artist, his works have been included in New Zealand art history and school textbooks, besides several paintings albums and poem books published.
