About Ken Garrett

Born in England in 1939 and studied Architecture at Liverpool College of Building (John Moore University), Sheffield University, and Art at Liverpool College of Art. In a career spanning 50 years in Architecture, Industrial Design, and Fine Art, was elected a member of the Chartered Society of Industrial Designers (UK). He emigrated to New Zealand in 1993 and returned to Europe in 1999.

His paintings cover a wide and versatile range of techniques in oils, acrylics, watercolours, ink, pencil and pastels, and are held in private collections in England, Dubai, France, Ireland, Italy, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Returning to New Zealand in 2004. After living in France he now lives in an old farmhouse overlooking Auckland harbour, and concentrates on painting.

Has won numerous art awards including the prestigious Ray Hannam Award, and the Windsor and Newton Professional Water Colour 1st prize at the Royal Easter Show in 2004, 1st prize in Abstract Art in 2011, 1st prize in the Coca Cola Art Awards 2012 for Themed Painting and gained numerous other awards between. Works over the last few years have culminated in an invitation by the International Selection Committee for the FLORENCE BIENNIAL INTERNATONAL ART EXHIBITION to represent NZ exhibiting his works in the 2009 and 2011 exhibitions in Florence.

Ken is the President of the Auckland Watercolour Society.
