The story behind 1924

My grandfather was a coal miner and inspector but also a very accomplished artist, and after he died I found a whole lot of his sketches. One of them was a tree, dated “MF 1924”. MF is Murray Fowler, my grandfather.

I integrated that sketch into the artwork, so the tree you can see in the top left hand corner was his work. What made him so special as an artist was that he had Parkinson’s disease, and also he lost the sight in one eye when he was a child, after an accident.

He died when he was 98.
