About the Artist

Anna Palmer

“In my current work I am concentrating on the coastline and it’s flora and fauna of the North Island of New Zealand as I feel that this area is part of my culture. I have lived, worked and played here all my life. I have drawn primarily in conte pastel on black paper since art school days. Pastel provides me with immediacy of expression and intensity of colour. My work is a celebration of colour, form and the energy created by their juxtaposition: the contrast of earth colours with bright acrid blues, purples and oranges; the intense, dramatic light of late afternoon; the jaggedness of the land against the sea. I like to create a sense of space in my images by overlapping several fields of vision.” PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 1980-1983: Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in painting at Auckland University. 1984: Trainee Curator, Fisher Gallery, Auckland. 1985-1988: Combined working as an Artist and Fashion Designer. 1989- Professional Artist

"I am interested in the abstract qualities of the North Auckland Landscape."
