About Lee Kleiman
Lee is a contemporary abstract painter inspired by an aesthetic of imperfection. Her paintings are a celebration of well-worn, weathered surfaces slightly faded by time and made more beautiful for the lines and marks that tell their stories. Letting go of outcomes and guided by intuition she spontaneously scratches, scrapes and layers paint, colour and texture, adding, eliminating and excavating between the layers until finally the essence of the painting emerges. Lee is drawn to both inner and outer landscapes and the emotional connection that exists between them. Her paintings offer the viewer the freedom to search for their own stories and sense of place within each piece. It is Lee’s hope to resonate peace and stillness in her work, her paintings are a quiet invitation to slow down, to pause and to breathe.
Lee works from her studio in Tauranga in the beautiful Bay of Plenty in NZ. She paints in both acrylic and oil and is currently exploring cold wax as a medium
